TAH began with a problem.
Not a fashion problem, exactly. A real-life one.
Before founding TAH, Angelina Walker spent 17 years at Nordstrom, building a career that eventually included buying women’s apparel and managing millions of dollars in buying responsibility. During those years, she studied product, quality, craftsmanship, and something even more important: how women actually live in the things they buy.
And every day, she was living with a handbag problem of her own.
It Started With a Heel and a Sneaker
Angelina often commuted to work in sneakers and changed into heels when she arrived.
One pair on. One pair carried.
The shoes usually ended up tossed into her tote alongside everything else she needed for the day. It worked, but not particularly well.
So she began thinking about a better solution: a beautifully designed leather tote with a dedicated place for the shoes she was carrying.
Tote A Heel.
That simple idea would eventually give TAH its name.
But the shoes were only part of the problem.
Angelina wanted the rest of the bag to work better, too.
A place for her phone. Thoughtful organization. Easy access to the things she reached for most. Beautiful leather. Substantial hardware. An interior considered with the same care as the exterior.
She wanted one bag that could carry the day without feeling like a bag designed simply to carry more.
The Moment the Idea Became Real
One morning, while waiting in line for coffee, Angelina found herself searching through her bag for her wallet while juggling everything else she had brought to work.
Her keys slipped from her hand. Someone nearby caught them.
A colleague watching the scene laughed and asked:
“Angie, don’t you have one bag that can hold all of your stuff?”
Her answer was immediate.
“I’ve been searching for that bag, but I can’t find one that I love.”
That was the moment the idea became something more.
Angelina wasn’t looking for another handbag.
She was looking for a bag that brought together the things she rarely found in one place: beautiful design, thoughtful function, exceptional materials, and a sense of ease.
If she couldn't find it, perhaps she could make it.
Seeing the Gap in the Handbag Market
Angelina’s years at Nordstrom had given her a close view of the fashion market and the way women shopped for handbags.
She began to see a space between two familiar choices.
On one side was fast fashion and the contemporary market.
On the other was traditional designer luxury, where price and recognizable branding often played as large a role as the product itself.
Angelina believed there was room for something different.
The timeless beauty of a luxury handbag.
The utility of a bag designed for real life.
Full-grain leather, substantial hardware, thoughtful interiors, and details that made the experience of carrying it better.
Refined, but understated.
Beautiful, but useful.
A bag rooted in touch, feel, and ease.
That idea became TAH.
Finding the Right Leather Makers
Having an idea was one thing.
Finding someone willing to make it was another.
The first TAH designs were complex. Angelina wasn't willing to simplify the construction or compromise the materials simply to make production easier.
More than one manufacturer told her no.
Eventually, she found a small production shop in Los Angeles willing to create samples and manufacture the bags in small batches.
There, Angelina met the leather maker who would become an important part of the TAH story.
When he later returned home to León, Mexico, their relationship continued.
León has generations of experience in leatherwork, and as Angelina explored production there, she found the craftsmanship, quality, and small-batch approach she had been searching for.
Production moved to León.
More than a decade later, every TAH bag is still handcrafted by that same dedicated team.
Craftsmanship Was Always Personal
Angelina's appreciation for making things well began long before TAH.
She was raised in a small town in Eastern Washington. Her father, who was from Mexico, was a master carpenter. Her mother, born in Hollywood, California, had an instinct for style and fashion.
From one came an appreciation for craftsmanship and the patience required to make something well.
From the other came an understanding of style, proportion, and the way something beautiful can make you feel.
Those influences stayed with Angelina throughout her career and eventually found their way into TAH.
The natural character of full-grain leather.
The weight and patina of solid hardware.
A well-considered proportion.
An interior designed around how someone will actually use it.
For TAH, quality has never been about adding more.
It is about choosing well.
The Middle Ground Was the Point
Building TAH was not an obvious path.
Angelina was repeatedly told that the brand did not fit neatly into the existing handbag market.
The quality could stand beside designer luxury, but the price was too high to compete with many contemporary brands and more attainable than traditional luxury.
But that middle ground was exactly the point.
Angelina knew she was the customer.
She wanted exceptional materials and craftsmanship without needing a prominent logo.
She wanted timeless design without sacrificing function.
And she wanted a bag beautiful enough to love and useful enough to carry every day.
She trusted there were other women looking for the same thing.
From One Tote to a Complete Handbag Collection
TAH has evolved far beyond that first tote and its dedicated shoe compartment.
Today, the collection includes crossbody bags, shoulder bags, leather totes, belt bags, travel bags, weekender bags, and small leather goods.
But the question behind every TAH design remains remarkably similar:
How can this work better?
How will it sit on the body?
Where should the pocket go?
How should the strap feel?
What does she need to reach without thinking?
How can the interior create organization without adding unnecessary complication?
How can a bag feel refined while still being designed for a full life?
Those questions have guided TAH from the beginning.
Timeless Design. Modern Utility.
TAH began with a woman looking for one bag that could do more without asking her to compromise on how it looked or felt.
That idea still defines the brand today.
We believe a beautiful bag should also make life easier.
We believe quality should be something you can see, touch, and feel—not something that requires a logo to explain it.
And we believe the things we carry every day deserve to be designed with as much consideration as the lives we carry them through.
From Tote A Heel to TAH, the purpose has remained the same: create something beautifully considered, thoughtfully functional, and made to be used.
